Aikido has spread steadily over the years and today is known all over the world. This success is due to the exceptional Aikido techniques Morihei Ueshiba and the efforts of many followers, including Kenji Tomiki. This book is a translation of the Japanese-language textbook written to every school of aikido by Fumiaki Shishida and Tetsuro Nariyama Shihans and published in 1985. In 1997, Nariyama Shihan instigated the formation of a team to accomplish the formidable task of translating the book. This edition is the result, and includes the photographs and diagrams from the Japanese edition.

Aikido Randori

Judo and kendo of well-known or including competitive practices and, as an extension, competitions. competitive aikido is less well known but is equal to both as a contemporary budo from historical, technical and educational viewpoints.

It was created by Kenji Tomiki (1900–1979) incorporating the techniques that were excluded from competitive judo. His hard work and research in the latter years of his life concluded in the creation of a systematic practice method for randori (competitive practice within the limits of certain rules) within Aikido.
